"Legalaid" LLC is one of the business entities benefiting from the state support to micro and small entrepreneurs. The company offers legal consultation services, and on February 6 last year, it received a "Startup" certificate, which provides tax benefits to entrepreneurs, by the Small and Medium Business Development Agency (KOBİA). Sona Selimli-Alasgarova, head of the company, member of the bar association, gave an interview to AZERTAG about the operations of the company.
- Ms. Sona, "Legalaid" LLC, offers legal consultation services. Would you inform us about the primary operations of the company?
- "Legalaid" LLC commenced its activities in 2019. Being the pioneer "Legaltech" company in Azerbaijan, our primary operations include developing and overseeing legal technology projects in addition to offering legal services. Firstly, I established “Yursovetnik" group on the "Facebook" in 2016. We offer free legal assistance to citizens in that group. Later I made it even more extensive. We developed the "Legalaid" mobile application, which will further facilitate citizen-lawyer communication across the country.
The flagship unique product of our company, the "Legalaid" mobile application, was released on the "PlayStore" and "AppStore" in the summer of 2020. Given that clients may obtain online legal assistance from attorneys via the "Legalaid" mobile application, we chose to collaborate with the Bar Association, and our business and the association signed an agreement. It is worth mentioning that there are currently over 18,000 members in the "Yursovetnik" group. As the "Legalaid" team, we offer people, legal entities, and non-residents prompt, high-quality legal assistance in a variety of ways. As a team at "Legalaid" LLC, we are working to resolve disputes and issues emerging in labour, family, commercial, civil, migration, real estate, tax, customs, intellectual property, administrative, medical, information technology, cryptocurrency (blokchain) and other fields, put required procedures into place, and model appropriate problem-solving techniques. Our primary objectives are to protect the interests of citizens and offer our clients high-quality legal services.
- What distinguishes the company's legal services from those offered by other establishments and private organizations?
- We are seeking to incorporate innovative technologies into our work, and we also support clients who are interested in implementing innovations and offer high-quality legal assistance. Our company regularly receives applications from startups with innovative projects, and we always assist them. Our country has witnessed a rise in interest in startups recently, and the reforms aimed at this direction will promote the further growth of the field. Our staff, which offers multilingual services to clients, consistently works to enhance the practical knowledge and abilities of interns during their internship and announces internship programs on a regular basis to help young lawyers develop these qualities. "Legalaid" LLC is one of the partners of international internship programs implemented by ELSA (The European Law Students' Association). Three foreign citizens have completed internships in our company. Two of them came via ELSA, and 1 came on his own initiative. "Legalaid" LLC is one of the partners of the "Fempower" project, which I co-founded. It was the first of its kind in the nation and aimed to support women and ensure their integration into society.
- Which projects are you currently working on?
- As a "Legalaid" team, we implement the "Future Lawyer" project every year. School pupils and university students who aspire to become lawyers are welcome to take part in the events carried out as part of this project. Our team's attorneys speak on subjects relevant to the attendees, intellectual competitions are held, and winners get a variety of awards. The project's goals are to provide participants with comprehensive knowledge of jurisprudence, impart knowledge of the expertise and advice of specialists in this field, and pick their interest in the field of jurisprudence.
Furthermore, we took part in the "Lotfi Zadeh Technology Center" acceleration program and were among the champions of the program. As a "Legalaid" team, we are consistently striving to implement strategies to enhance our startup.
